From April 18 to 24, we’re asking that you look for the hashtag #CareersInAging and help get the word out.
Hosted by the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), Careers in Aging Week partners include the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), Argentum, The Erickson School of Aging Studies at University of Maryland Baltimore County and LeadingAge. The effort is supported by the GSA Innovation Fund.
This year, the partners have put out “Hero Stories” for social media, with snapshots of those pursuing careers in areas ranging from nursing to marketing to employee recruitment to advanced health care technology research.
A new initiative by the group this year is a month-long email campaign to a nationwide mailing list of high school counselors to raise awareness of senior living jobs; point out opportunities for jobs, education and training; extend resources they can share with students; and lay the foundation for further communication and collaboration with this important group of influencers.
Celebrating Careers in Aging Week goes beyond one week in April, however. Resources on the GSA site include videos and webinars on academic, research, and professional opportunities.
Senior Living Works, a free and publicly available initiative led by Argentum and underwritten by OnShift, is designed to meet the current and future workforce needs of the senior living industry. Ways to explore careers or get started on the path include:
For Argentum, Careers in Aging Week is not only part of an investment in a high-quality workforce, but also a great chance to be part of a diverse group of fellow organizations working together for a common mission.
Our careers may be different, but they are interdependent; none of us can do it alone. Each of us has different strategies, goals and audiences, but—particularly in the past year—we’ve seen how powerful we can be when we unite to get the best quality of life for older adults.
We hope you can help by clicking “like” and “share” and helping spread the word about these meaningful, rewarding careers.
